The Rapids Report
April 3rd, 2023
Dear STrEaM Families,
This week students are taking the AK Star MATH assessment. If you have opted your child out of testing, we do not have personnel or space to supervise them and would appreciate you keeping them home, at least until testing is complete. See testing schedule below.
The lottery is open for the 23-24 School Year, and we are actively seeking new students! The lottery closes this Thursday, April 6th. Apply at https://www.asdk12.org/lottery
STrEaM Academy: Adventure Awaits!
Caution: Pick up and Drop off
Please drive slowly and use caution when dropping off and picking up. We are working on getting the parking lot situation addressed. However, it is always best to drive slowly and carefully coming in and leaving school.
Next Friday, April 14 is the mid-quarter deadline for practice assignments (PAs) in many classes. Students are given reminders and help during Advisory class to use StudentConnect (Q) and Canvas to make a list of missing items and work to redo. Then, they are given time in Advisory to finish something from the list. Please ask your student about their progress with completing any make-up work during Advisory, and please help them finish anything else as homework. Being caught-up at mid-quarter will set them up for success with projects in the second half of the quarter.

Health Spotlight: Nurse Bethany
One way we can model health in our students is to seek ways to improve our own health. The state of Alaska is offering free health coaching programs for Alaskans who want to lose weight, prevent/manage diabetes, lower blood pressure, and stop smoking. Sign up with Fresh Start programs and a health coach will contact you, including sending you a scale or blood pressure cuff.
Wishing you well- Nurse Bethany. Contact Nurse Bethany at zimpelman_bethany@asdk12.org
Let’s have an awesome 4th quarter!
