Rapids Report for 5-1-23

 The Rapids Report

May 1st, 2023

Dear STrEaM Families,

It is MAY! And time for ONLINE REGISTRATION! All students returning to ANY ASD school must have completed online registration. Our goal is to have 95% of our families complete this process by the first week in June. See below for more.

The annual spring auction is now live! Visit here: https://sa5c3.betterworld.org/auctions/3rd-annual-anchorage-stream-acad

Please talk with your child about hands and feet to selves. This has been a constant challenge this school year for us. It includes the new fad of snatching hats or other personal items away from each other. We are working on this on our end, but would appreciate your support in addressing this and helping children understand why it is important. To students, it is in fun and play, and harmless. However, that is not the case. Low level “playfighting” and “horseplay” gets out of hand, and leads to more serious incidents. We need your help in helping them understand that every student has the right to bodily autonomy, and they are not allowed to do this in school.

Weekly Schedule

5/1  Monday: Full Day P. 1-7

  • Online Registration is OPEN

  • 3rd Annual Stream Online Auction is OPEN

  • Principal Appreciation Day

5/2 Tuesday: A day, Advisory, P. 1-4

  • ALICE scenario discussion in Advisory

5/3  Wednesday: Early Release 12:00 PM

5/4 Thursday: B day, Advisory, P. 5-8

5/5 Friday: Full Day P. 1-7

There’s nothing more important than the health and safety of your children. That’s why we are sharing this crucial information with you about the fentanyl poisoning crisis that communities across the country are experiencing. Awareness is key, so we need to educate children about this danger. Staff recently covered critical information on this topic in Advisory. To help you have this conversation at home, here is a link to the free Natural High Fentanyl Toolkit: www.naturalhigh.org/fentanyl

Spring is near (hiding under the snow). I love all the sunlight, warmer weather, and mostly the melting! Unfortunately for some, spring is the start of the airborne allergy season. Symptoms include red, itchy, watery eyes, runny nose, headaches, a possible increase in asthma symptoms. If you or your child suffers from airborne allergies now is the time to prepare.

Please make sure you have all over the counter or prescription allergy medications filled and on hand at your home. Give your child his/her allergy medication at home prior to school.

Over the counter allergy medication can be given at school with a signed parent permission, through the end of the school year. Please email, if you have any questions.

Mid-Term Grading

Friday, April 14 is the mid-quarter deadline for practice assignments (PAs) in many classes.  Students are given reminders and help during Advisory class to use StudentConnect (Q) and Canvas to make a list of missing items and work to redo. Then, they are given time in Advisory to finish something from the list.  Please ask your student about their progress with completing any make-up work during Advisory, and please help them finish anything else as homework.  Being caught-up at mid-quarter will set them up for success with projects in the second half of the quarter.

Welcome Mr. Bahner for the 23-24 School Year!

We’re excited to add Mr. Stephen Bahner to teach math at STrEaM next year. See the full announcement here: https://rapidsreport.blogspot.com/2023/04/welcome-stephen-bahner.html
