Rapids Report for 8-29-22

 The Rapids Report

August 29th, 2022

Dear STrEaM Families,

We’ve completed our first full week of school, settling into our schedule and routines. Can you believe this is the last week of August? Fall is usually a beautiful time in Alaska, so we are holding out hope the rain will subside in September for all of our outdoor learning and adventures, including TREKS to Arctic Valley. We’re off to a great start for this school year!

If you are interested in Wednesday after school learning lab, contact us to sign up. This is a focused, academic study hall/homework time. Students will be expected to work on academics during this time, and will not be able to attend if they are disruptive or off task.

This week we are MAP testing in Advisory on Tuesday and Thursday. MAP is a nationally normed test in Math and Reading, giving us valuable data on students which allow us to better support their learning.

Next week: NO SCHOOL MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH

Enrollment

STrEaM has seats available for 6th grade students! Interested families can call, email or stop by for more information. Please let us know if you need posters, flyers or information to share. Students who refer a student who enrolls with us receive a STrEaM hoodie!  #EXPLORERSWANTED

X-C Running

X-C Running team is off to a strong start.  Back to back years with a 40-student team!  Thank you families for all the support so far.  If willing and able we are still taking snack donations.  Please speak to Coach Perkins if looking for suggestions. Please see the following link for the  XC Meet Schedule.  No Practice Friday 9/2

Drop-off and Pick-Up

Try to maintain two lanes: inside lane for pick up/drop off, outside lane for passing and exiting.

Pull as far forward as possible before stopping. Please do not stop to pick up or drop off if there is space in front of you to pull forward. Pulling as far forward as possible reduces traffic back-up.

Picture Day

Picture day is Monday, September 12th!

Arctic Valley TREKs

We were able to secure bussing for all grades to take a TREK to Arctic Valley! This is a classic STrEaM beginning of the year field trip where students hike, pick berries, and enjoy time in the alpine environment. Electronic permission forms will be coming soon!

Each grade level will visit Arctic Valley on the following dates:

8th Grade - Tuesday 9/13

7th Grade - Thursday 9/15

6th Grade - Thursday 9/22

We need parent chaperones!  If you are interested in being a chaperone for one of the above dates, please contact gatlin_megan@asdk12.org. If you have not yet completed the ASD online volunteer application, please do so asap!

Academic Policy Committee (APC)

Charter schools are governed by an “Academic Policy Committee” or APC. STrEaM’s APC meets the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 PM. Call or email with any questions! Next APC Meeting Wednesday, September 14th.
