 The Rapids Report

October 30th, 2023

Dear STrEaM Families,

STrEaM is excited to welcome our new secretary, Mrs. Blackson! Monday will be her first day. Mrs. Blackson is also a STrEaM parent and was previously a school secretary at Susitna Elementary. Join us in welcoming her to our team!

Quarter 2 is underway, conferences are complete, and we are ready to move into November. October was a busy month, with short weeks,  the end of the term, and conferences. We look forward to things smoothing out, going back to our regular schedule and routines, and focusing on learning.

24-25 School Schedule:

We have been asked if the school schedule at STrEaM will change next year with the rest of ASD.

We are planning the following schedule adjustments for  next (school) year:

  • Our school day will begin at 8:30 AM instead of 8:00

  • This also staggers our start time with elementary, which is important to many of our parents.

  • We will continue early release on Wednesdays, at 12:30 PM.

  • M/T/TH/F we will dismiss at 3:30 PM. With regular middle schools ending at 4:00 PM, this gives 30 minutes transition time for our students to get to after school activities and sports.

This Week at STrEaM:

Monday 10/30: Full schedule Periods 1-7

Tuesday 10/31: Block Day A: Adv, P. 1-4

Wednesday 11/1:

  • Early Release 12:00

  • Boxing & Math clubs

Thursday 11/2: Block Day B: Adv, P. 5-8

Friday 11/3: Full schedule Periods 1-7

  • Picture Retake Day (2pm in Auditorium)

Picture Retake Day

Friday, November 3, 2023 at 2:00 pm Lifetouch will be here to do picture retakes for those students who wish to return their purchased packet. Students who missed the original picture day will also take their photos on this day so that an ID card can be issued and so that you have an opportunity to receive a proof for possible purchase!

Emergency Closure Projects

In the event of an emergency closure, school will be held through remote learning. Each grade level has developed emergency closure projects for students. These were sent home as hard copies and are available on Canvas.

Teachers will send an email by 8:00 AM with instructions for parents on projects and a schedule with zoom links. Grade-level teams will host joint zoom check-ins for students at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Projects are designed to be hands-on exploratory activities, not reliant on (but supplemented with) technology.

Walking to and from school

It is now dark in the morning when school starts. We have students walking and biking to school.

Drivers: be cautious and watch for pedestrians.

Parents: please have your child wear bright and/or reflective clothing when walking or biking.

Safety is paramount!

STOPit

STOPit is an anonymous reporting tool designed to deter and mitigate bullying, cyber abuse, and other inappropriate behaviors, consisting of an app and a back-end incident management system for school administrators.

Specifically, the program empowers students and families to:

  • Report at-risk or inappropriate behaviors anonymously

  • Submit photo or video evidence

  • Alert designated administrators to issues and risks early, before they escalate

Your child has been educated on the STOPit app so please discuss it with your student. We also encourage your family to explore the district page on STOPit, linked above.
