Dear STrEaM Families,

October always seems to fly by, and we have reached November! 

Next week there is no school on Thursday, November 11th to honor the veterans who have bravely served our country. 

Lunch at STrEaM

So far this year, we have had outdoor lunch school-wide. Being outdoors is one of the greatest mitigators for spread of infectious disease, due to fresh, open air and plenty of space for distancing. However, the weather is turning colder, so I want to share our plan moving forward. 

Each lunch room supervisor has the following options:

• Take their group outdoors for 30 minutes

• Eat lunch with desk shields in the classroom for 15 minutes, then go outdoors 15 minutes

• Eat outdoors for the first 15 minutes, returning to the classroom for the last 15 minutes

• Eat lunch indoors all 30 minutes (desk shields until all students finish eating)

If a student is in a lunchroom that is outside for the full 30 minutes on a cold day, they can request to go to an indoor lunchroom and their lunch supervisor will radio to find open space. 

We are an outdoor school, and we will continue going outside for breaks, PE, lunch and class activities throughout the year. Students must come dressed for the weather. 

Health & Safety

As we move towards winter and it gets darker outside, it is so important for walkers and bikers to wear reflective clothing and safety gear. Drivers, be cautious and watch for students on foot or wheels when you are picking up or dropping off. 

Other Health and Safety notes:

• We go outside every day, including PE, breaks and lunch. Students must have appropriate outdoor gear for the weather

• Keep ASD Symptom Free: Stay home & get tested if experiencing ANY symptoms

• Masks required indoors, optional outside

Dear STrEaM Families,

With conference week behind us, quarter 2 classes and projects can now get rolling. The next break in the schedule is Thursday, November 11th. This week we welcome back Mrs. Sonday (formerly Ms. Draeger), our 6th grade Science and STEM teacher, from leave. With that, STrEaM wants to express thanks and gratitude to our long term substitute Elroy “Grandpa” Holsopple, who filled in and did an amazing job in the first quarter. The Holsopple family is an amazing asset to STrEaM!

This Week at STrEaM

This week is Spirit Week at STrEaM!

Follow the daily themes and dress up accordingly. Keep all costumes school-appropriate & safe, and have fun!

• Monday 10/25: Make-Up Picture Day

• Black & White Day: wear black and white like an old time movie!

• Tuesday 10/26:

• Fancy Day: dress in your finest!

• Wednesday 10/27: 

• Throwback Day: raid parents’ closet, go old school

• No Boxing. Math Club resumes.

• Thursday 10/28: 

• Otherworldly Day: aliens & creatures from other galaxies 

• Friday 10/29: 

• Halloween Day: wear your (school appropriate) costumes!

Dear STrEaM Families,

We've reached the 10th week of school and the beginning of 2nd Quarter. Winter is coming! We have a modified schedule most of the week for student-led conferences, and no school on Friday. 

This Week at STrEaM

• Monday 10/18:  Beginning of Quarter 2

• Tuesday 10/19: NO block schedule. Full schedule p. 1-7 

• Wednesday 10/20: 

• Early Release 12:00, SLCs 12:30 to 5:00

• STrEaM Scouting Day - Students wear your uniforms!

• No boxing, Math Lab today (SLCs)

• APC Election: fill out ballots when you sign in for SLCs

• Thursday 10/21: 

• Early Release 12:00, SLCs 12:30 to 5:00

• Scouting Information Tables during SLC in lobby

• APC Election: fill out ballots when you sign in for SLCs

• Friday 10/22: NO SCHOOL

Student-Led Conferences

Student-Led Conferences this week on Wednesday 10/20 and Thursday 10/21, from 

All visitors must wear masks inside the building at all times. This is both ASD and WBU policy. 

12:30 PM until 5:00 PM. 

• We do not schedule conference times: drop in during at your convenience 

• The intent is for students to present portfolios & take the lead on their learning. This is not a time for in-depth meetings with teachers: they are standing by to answer questions and offer support

• You may schedule a meeting with teachers outside of conference times if needed  

STrEaM Scouting Day: Wednesday 10/20/21

Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniform and answer questions about their scouting experience. Scout Leadership Adult Volunteers will be on campus during Conferences to answer questions, too!

Chromebook Collection & Update

Any Chromebooks not collected last week need to be turned in, plugged in and on the ASD network overnight to update this week. Please remind your child to bring their Chromebook and charging cable to school every day!

• ASD requires chaperones & volunteers to show proof of vaccination OR to provide negative results from a molecular COVID test within 48 hours from the time of the field trip.

X-C Running

Thank you to Coaches Mozen and Perkins for a great cross country running season! This season was a great success. We are proud of our runners and look forward to growing our team in the future. Congratulations to Reubin Williams, who took 5th place in the District! 

Make-Up Picture Day

Make-up Picture Day is Monday, October 25th. Online ordering will reopen; 3-4 weeks after picture day  packages, student ID cards & proof sheets for those without orders will arrive. All students photographed receive a Personalized Order Sheet showing their photo and Portrait ID/Access Code to log on & order on MyLifetouch.com. Ordering  is available the remainder of the school year.

Remember as it gets colder, we still go outside every day. Students must dress for the weather, staying in is not an option. Walkers and bikers should have reflective tape/gear as it gets darker, and students on wheels MUST wear helmets (Anchorage Municipal Code).

REPORT

Dear STrEaM Families,

We have reached the final week of the first quarter. Remember there is NO SCHOOL this Friday and next! Second Quarter begins Monday, 10/18. 

We will continue to go outside every day, and eat lunch outdoors for safety, as it gets colder. Please remember to send your child with appropriate outdoor clothing and gear!

Chromebook Collection & Update

Parents, please help facilitate Chromebook collection this week. We need Chromebooks plugged in and on the ASD network to update. 

Thursday 10/14 STrEaM will collect all student chrome books and chargers to plug in & connect to the ASD network for an update over the long weekend. Chromebooks will be re-issued Monday 10/18.

APC (Academic Policy Committee)

Monday and Tuesday Practice:3:00-4:30. Wednesday: Championships @ Kincaid: 1:30-3:45. Runners do not go home at noon, they go right to the race on the bus. They must bring lunch to school on Wednesday!

Update on Picture Day

Make-up Picture Day is Coming to Anchorage STrEaM Academy Tuesday, October 25, 2021

Online ordering is currently closed. However it will reopen; 3-4 weeks after picture day the portrait packages that parents ordered will arrive. As will the student ID cards and proof sheets for those without orders.  

All students photographed will receive a Personalized Order Sheet showing their photo and Portrait ID/Access Code. With that information the parents can log on and place the order on MyLifetouch.com. The ordering for this is available for the remainder of the school year.
