The Rapids Report
August 17th, 2022
Dear STrEaM Families,
Tomorrow. August 18th, is the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! We are so excited to kick off the school year with our students. We will have “welcome week” activities the first two days, beginning with a school-wide assembly at 8 AM Thursday. Students will then go to advisory for team building, and will meet all their teachers in mini-classes.
On Friday students will start the day in Advisory, then go to their Grade-Level Projects teachers for outdoor exploration and community project activities.
Please help students remember to bring a lunch, dress for the weather, and be prepared to go outside. Write names on the inside of jackets and gear, and on water bottles and lunch boxes.
Drop-off and Pick-Up
Drop off begins at 7:45 AM. Follow the cones and staff directions.
Pull as far forward as possible before stopping. Students will line up outside until 8 AM.
It is unlawful to be on electronic devices while driving in a school zone.
Drive slowly in the neighborhood & watch for pedestrians & bicycles: many of our students walk to and from school.
Pick up begins at 3:00 on M/T/TH/F, and at 12:00 on Wednesdays. Call for early pick up. Pull as far forward as possible, filling space in front of you. You may also find a spot to park and wait.
“Special” Electives
Students will select their “Special” elective on Thursday in Advisory during Welcome Week. Specials are held period 8 on Thursdays. Options will include: Yearbook, Ultimate Frisbee, Improv, Lego Wars, Math Art, Photography, Nature Discovery, and Leadership.
X-C Running
X-C running will begin Monday, August 22nd. Practices will be from 3:10-4:30. Wednesday practices will be in the mornings before school at 7:00. Please follow the link and fill out the link to the required forms if interested in participating https://www.asdk12.org/Page/14715

Forms and Links
IMPORTANT! Parents, please complete these mandatory forms as soon as possible: Annual STrEaM Forms. For the School Supply List follow this link. Please write your child’s name on outdoor clothing, lunch boxes and water bottles.
Volunteers Needed!
ASA needs parent volunteers to support walking field trips and off-campus activities. Every person who VOLUNTEERS for ASD must sign up EVERY YEAR. Please do this now so you are already approved when we need you! COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED (link)
Lunch at STrEaM
Students must bring a sack lunch. We do not have a lunch program or lunchroom: Lunch is generally outdoors unless the weather is prohibitive. We keep emergency lunches on hand, and ask for support with providing these: LUNCH DONATIONS
School Policies
Everyone who walks through our doors will treat others with dignity and respect
Dress for the weather: We go outside every day!
