Rapids Report 8-8-22

The Rapids Report

August 8th, 2022

Dear STrEaM Families,

We’ve reached August, and the start of school is right around the corner.  The fall lottery has run and we’re now in the open enrollment period. Most of our seats are filled: However, we’ve reserved select seats to gender-balance some cohorts: if you know any interested families, have them call us for more information. We are especially seeking 6th grade girls. #GirlsInSTEM

Forms and Links

IMPORTANT! Parents, please complete these mandatory forms as soon as possible: Annual STrEaM Forms. For the School Supply List follow this link. Please write your child’s name on outdoor clothing, lunch boxes and water bottles.

Every person who VOLUNTEERS for ASD must sign up EVERY YEAR. Please do this now so you are already approved when we need you! COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED (link)

Volunteer Drivers Needed!

Due to the shortage of bus drivers, we need parent drivers more than ever for our TREKs and adventures.  If you are willing to be a driver, please complete the form on the ASD website (linked here) as soon as possible and provide Sylvia with: driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance. The online form must be submitted to ASD 7-10 days prior to driving students.

Drop-off and Pick-Up

  • Drop off begins at 7:45 AM. Follow cones & staff directions. Pull as far forward as possible.
  • Students will line up outside until 8 AM.
  • Pick up begins at 3:00 M/T/TH/F, and 12:00 on Wednesdays. Call for early pick up. Pull as far forward as possible, filling space in front of you. You may also find a spot to park and wait.
  • It is unlawful to be on electronic devices while driving in a school zone.
  • Drive slowly in the neighborhood & watch for pedestrians & bicycles: many students walk to and from school.

X-C Running

X-C running will begin with the start of the school year. Please follow the link and fill out the link to the required forms if interested in participating: https://www.asdk12.org/Page/14715

Lunch at STrEaM

We do not have a lunch program or lunchroom: students must bring a sack lunch. Lunch is generally outdoors unless the weather is prohibitive. We keep emergency lunches on hand, and ask for support with providing these: LUNCH DONATIONS

General School Policies

  • Everyone who walks through our doors will treat others with dignity and respect.

  • All ASD policies as outlined in the student handbook apply to our school.

  • Students may bring personal electronic devices: our policy is “off and away during the day.”

  • We allow students to wear hats, but ask the hoods be down in the building for safety reasons.

  • Appropriate and safe conduct is especially important outdoors and off-campus: infractions will result in loss of these privileges.

Specials

Students will select their “Special” Thursday afternoon electives during Welcome Week.

Options will include: Yearbook, Ultimate Frisbee, Multiple Intelligences, Lego Wars, Math Art, Photography, Nature Discovery, and Leadership. These change quarterly.

We're excited to start the school year and to work with our amazing families and students. Communication is important to us: call, email or come by if you have questions or need support.
