9-7-21 Rapids Report

The Rapids Report

September 7th, 2021

Dear STrEaM Families,

Welcome to Week 4: we hope your Labor Day long weekend was rewarding, and that you were able to enjoy the great Alaskan outdoors. We are nearing the midpoint of the first quarter, enjoying beautiful fall weather, and immersed in TREKS, projects and engaging learning opportunities.

This Week at STrEaM

  • Tuesday, 9/7: 8th Grade McHugh Creek Rec Area TREK McHugh Permission

  • Wednesday: APC Meeting at 5:30 PM

  • Friday: our first X-C meet, 5:30 PM at Service

iReady

By now most students have completed the iReady Reading and Math diagnostic. Quarantined students CAN do this at home, it just has to be during school hours. Our MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports) is using this data to identify students needing support in reading and math. iReady provides an individualized learning program, which can be followed at home each night. Please include this in your daily homework routine!

School Policies

  • Our device policy is "off and away during the day." Students should only use electronic devices with the permission of a staff member, for a specific educational purpose
  • While we allow students to wear hats at STrEaM, we do not allow hoods indoors for many reasons, including hiding the face/student identity and possibly concealing earbuds/headphones
  • Always wear or bring appropriate clothing and gear for the outdoors. We go outside every day, and it is not optional!
  • Students on wheels must wear helmets and reflective gear (Municipal Code 9.38.200)

  • Everyone who walks through our doors will be treated with Dignity and Respect

Migrant Education

This year STrEaM has a Migrant Education Student Success Coach (SSC), Allison Foust. We have quite a few students who qualify, and possibly many more not yet signed up!

What is Migrant Education?

The Federal Migrant Education Program assists in supporting high-quality and comprehensive educational programs and services during the school year and, as applicable, during the summer or intersession periods, that address the unique educational needs of migratory children.

The goal of ASD's Migrant Ed Program (MEP), is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment. Migrant Education is a federally funded program that is authorized by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
