Dear STrEaM Families,

We’ve entered into testing season! Monday we begin the new State assessment, AK Star. See the testing schedule and full details below. AK STAR includes Reading and Math tests for grades 6, 7, and 8, done on separate days. 8th grade will still take the Science assessment as well. This test is created by NWEA, the same company that produces the MAP test. We expect the test to look and feel similar to MAP, providing familiarity for students. The alignment to MAP enhances our data and decision making. There are great new features and tools for students to use as well. 

Please mark Friday, April 22nd on your calendars There is NO SCHOOL that day for STrEaM ONLY, due to the Wayland Baptist spring graduation. It is a professional development day for staff.

AK STAR & Science Testing

STrEaM begins statewide testing for students this week. Students will test in different subjects on different days, see schedule below. Please ensure that your student gets quality sleep on the nights prior to testing and comes to school on time having eaten a healthy breakfast on the day of testing. All testing will begin first thing in the morning. Make up testing for any student who misses a test session will be made up on April 13th.

Lottery

Welcome to all our new students who received seats for the 22-23 school year through the lottery! Lottery notifications went out Friday night. Please contact us if you have any questions about the lottery, waitlist, enrollment, etc.

STrEaM Anchorage 501(c)3 

Second Annual Spring Fundraiser 

The Stream Anchorage 501(c)(3) will host the second annual online basket auction to support Anchorage STrEaM Academy. The online auction will open on May 2 and close May 13. 

• Each advisory class is making a themed basket for the auction. 

• Interested volunteers can donate auctionable items which might be incorporated into a larger package, OR choose a theme and build a basket to donate. 

• Completed baskets need to be delivered to the front office by April 15. Each basket should include an inventory of the contents to the outside of the basket.

Dear STrEaM Families,

We’ve entered into testing season! This week our staff will do training on the new Alaska State Assessment, AK STAR. Next week, on Monday 3/28, we will begin proctoring this assessment. There is a Reading and Math test, done on separate days, and 8th grade will still take the Science assessment as well. As far as standardized testing goes, I am excited about this one because it is from NWEA, the same company that produces the MAP test. I expect a lot of alignment to MAP and there are great new features and tools for students to use.

Dear STrEaM Families,

Welcome back! We hope Spring Break provided some rest and recharging for students and families. We are now launching into the fourth and final quarter of the school year. This quarter is heavy on assessments, with the new State test “AK STAR” in March and spring MAP testing in April. 

We have two staff changes to share this month. First, we welcome Ms. Poole as a long term sub for Ms. Gabel in 6th and 7th grade Social Studies Ms. Poole is a retired ASD teacher and is very excited to work at our program.  Second, Mr. Holsopple and his wife welcomed a new baby into their family on March 3rd! Mr. Holsopple will be on leave until late March, covered by our super building sub Grandpa Holsopple for 7th Science and STEM.  We are very lucky to have these two incredible subs.

Dear STrEaM Families,

We’ve reached the last week of quarter 3! Remember there is no school Friday, or next week. Spring break! We return on Monday March 14th for the 4th quarter. 

Last week we sent an update on the district’s move to optional parent-choice masking. ASD encourages students and staff to continue wearing masks, and there are conditions that will require masking, such as presenting respiratory symptoms, returning from COVID isolation, awaiting parent pick-up due to COVID symptoms, or riding buses.

We're proud of and thankful for our positive school culture. During school tours and at the ASD charter fair, our student leaders spoke about the closeness, support, high engagement, and frequent outdoor activities at STrEaM. They also spoke about the low levels of bullying and other serious misbehavior at our school. To hear the perspective of students, shared with prospective students and families, was so positive and encouraging.

In closing, a quote from Rudyard Kipling:
