Rapids Report 12-12-22

 The Rapids Report

December 12th, 2022

Dear STrEaM Families,

It’s December! Hopefully we are able to attend school (safely) for the remaining two weeks. Friday is the last day for mastery assessments, and grade notifications have gone out for any students in danger of not passing. We’re almost to Winter Break: let’s finish strong!!

When we return to school, the pick-up and drop-off line will be impacted by the snow plowed to the north of the parking lot. This likely means back-ups further down Old Muldoon. Please do NOT block driveways. Come early and/or park if possible. Practice patience and grace with staff and other drives.

12/14 Wednesday: PROJECT DAY! Early Release 12:00 PM

The book has been nominated for the Outstanding Creator Awards Winter 2023, and just won a Literary Titan Goold Book Award.

Mahalo Does Not Mean Trash focuses on the Hawaiian value of gratitude. It is out NOW on Amazon and other book retailers.

Albert and his siblings formed their own company, Perks Publishing LLC.  Albert is the “Chief People Officer” of Perk Publishing. They hope to empower other children to create books and share their own stories. We are hoping to host a book signing in the near future!

Social-Emotional Learning:

This week’s topic is communicating emotions! Students will discuss and practice this skill in Advisory this week. Ask your child about healthy, appropriate ways they can talk about their feelings. One strategy that can be helpful is "name it to tame it." Encourage them to name the emotion they are feeling, saying it out loud.

Assessment

Winter MAP testing is nearly complete! The last make-up session is Wednesday December 7th.

Skiing Season Updates

Coach Mozen has returned from retirement for another season! Coach Perkins will assist again, along with Ms. Wesley, who is joining our coaching staff for the first time. Yes, we have so many skiers we need three coaches! You can help by volunteering to supervise or drive, or donating to sponsor a skier.

Upcoming TREK for 8th Grade

8th Graders will travel via bus to the West High Pool on Tuesday, December 13th to test their cardboard boats. Please complete the online permission form: Regatta Permission. Pull as far forward as possible, filling open space ahead of you, before stopping to let your child in/out of the vehicle.
