The Rapids Report
August 26th, 2024
Dear STrEaM Families, parents and guardians,
One Big Thing: So far this year, personal devices have not been and issue, and we already see an increase in student engagement and joy, and a decrease in classroom management issues!
Adventure awaits!
MAP testing begins next Tuesday! Please prepare your student(s) for testing by helping them get a good night’s rest, healthy breakfast, and on-time arrival to school. We will be in testing mode at 8:30-10:50 on Tues, Sept 3 for Math and Tues, Sept. 10 for Language Arts.

👟Cross Country Running
Hey Rapids! This is week 2 of practices. The team is building endurance and there have been lots of smiles. Remember that we are running regardless of the weather so please be prepared. We are so fortunate to have amazing parent volunteers that join practice and bring snacks. Thank you to all and please join us if you can! On Friday, 8/30, athletes will receive their XC running shirts and jackets. No practice on Monday 9/2. More detailed information is linked here. If you are not receiving a detailed email on Sundays from me, please send me an email and I’ll add you to the list.
-Coach Wesley
Drop off and pick up
Pull as far forward as possible before stopping
Please do not stop if there is space in front of you to pull forward. Pulling as far forward as possible reduces traffic back-up
Maintain two lanes: inside lane for pick up/drop off, outside lane for passing and exiting
It is unlawful to be on electronic devices while driving in a school zone
Drive slowly in the neighborhood!

Advisory and Lunch Math Lab
Mrs.Olendorff hosts a math lab during Tuesday’s and Thursday’s advisory period and during the midday break/lunch hour on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. To attend advisory math lab students are to check in with their advisory teacher then come to Mrs. Olendorff’s room #110. For lunch math lab, once students are released for lunch they are to come to Mrs. Olendorff’s room #110. There is a limit of 24 seats available and it is important that students spend this time working solely on math and adhere to technology expectations. Please reach out to Mrs. Olendorff at olendorff_stephanie@asdk12.org for more information or with any questions.
📚Battle of the Books
Calling all readers! We invite you to join the STrEaM Battle of the Books (BOB) team this year. We will have two groups, a 6th grade group and a 7th/8th grade (Middle School) group. Click this link to view the book lists for each group. Practice will be held during lunch beginning in October, but you can get a head start by reading the books now. The STrEaM library has one copy of each title for both lists, you can also use the public library system, check them out electronically, or even audiobook!
Sincerely, your BOB coaches, Mr. Bahner and Mrs. Lojewski
STrEaM is Phone-Free for 2024-25
STrEaM requires personal devices (phones), if brought to school, to be secured in backpacks, and not on a students’ person during the school day.
Students may access their devices before and after school. We’ve ordered secure phone pouches from a company called Yondr. Check out this video on schools going phone-free and using Yondr pouches:
Growing number of schools across U.S. require students to lock away phones

Thank you for being a part of the ASA family!
