Dear STrEaM Families,
No School today (Monday 1/16) to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. STrEaM honors the legacy of Dr. King by continuing to strive for equity and inclusion. This day represents the promise of a great education and opportunities for ALL students, and ideal we hold dear.
The lottery opens February 1st! Current/returning students do NOT need to apply. We need YOUR support! You can help by spreading the word about STrEaM Academy with social media, flyers, posters, and word of mouth. Encourage interested students and families to call us for more information! If you would like flyers or posters to distribute, please contact us and we will get these to you. #ExplorersWanted
Update snow day make-up
STrEaM will make up missed days by extending three Wednesdays (on short
weeks) to full days in addition to other district calendar adjustments (2/24 is now a school day). We will NOT be extending the school day by 30 minutes.
The following Wednesdays are slated as full school days (no early release):
Wednesday 2/22 (No school Monday 2/20 Presidents’ Day)
Wednesday 3/8 (No school Friday 3/10 End Q3/Spring Break)
Wednesday 4/19 (No school Friday 4/21 WBU Spring Graduation)

Ski Season
Coach Mozen has returned to coach skiing again this season! He is joined by assistant coaches Perkins and Wesley. The first two practices are Thursday and Friday 1/12 and 1/13 at STreaM 3:00-4:30 after school in Room 6. (see current practice schedule above). Also check out our Draft Ski Season Calendar for practice and Race information. (Hard copies available.)
Please pick up your child promptly at 4:30. Coaches must stay with skiers until they have been picked up by parents.
Transportation: WE NEED VOLUNTEER DRIVERS! Starting next Thursday 1/19, we will practice at Russian Jack Springs Park approximately 3 days/week. It is 11 minutes away from STrEaM and 3.7 miles. So that our skiers can learn the most, have fun, and be ready for races we want to get them to groomed trails, which we do not have at our STrEaM campus. More information about this and other important ski team info will have already been e-mailed to you on 1/13. Questions/ concerns? New staff
Welcome (back) Emily Stephens! Mrs. Stephens has worked at STrEaM in many capacities since our second year, and is student teaching under Ms. Krejca Q3!
Melody McAllister is teaching 7th grade Language Arts and Social Studies for the first two weeks of the quarter. Mrs. McAllister is a STrEaM parent with 15 years teaching experience and teaching certification in the State of Texas. Mr. Mozen will sub when Mrs. McAllister is not available.

August Wimberger is our 6th grade Outdoor Adventure PE teacher this quarter. Mr. Wimberger has a background in outdoor experiential education and experience subbing at STrEaM. He is an avid outdoorsman and excited to get students outside every day! Contact: wimberger_august@asdk12.org
Scott Maxwell is teaching Pre-Algebra this quarter. Mr. Maxwell has worked as both a math tutor and classroom teacher, including teaching math at our school. Originally from the Washington DC area, he calls Alaska home now. He has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Maryland. Contact maxwell_scott@asdk12.org
Health Spotlight: Nurse Bethany
In January on select Thursdays our 7th graders will all be seen by our nursing staff for health assessments, per ASD Guidelines. Students should bring their prescription lens for their vision check.

Lunch at STrEaM
Please be sure your child packs a cold lunch. We do not have a lunch program or lunchroom. Lunch is generally outdoors unless the weather is prohibitive. 45% of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes and we hope to help them with free lunches when necessary. We have been serving between 8 and 17 lunches per day this month. Donations of Bread, Peanut Butter, Cheese & Turkey lunch meat are always welcome. Call 742-9000 for more information.
