Rapids Report for 1-23-23

 The Rapids Report

January 23rd, 2023

Dear STrEaM Families,

We’re into the third week of quarter 3 and things are going great at STrEaM! Classes are getting outside every day, embracing the snow and winter in Alaska. Ski season is off to a great start, with almost 50 skiers and three coaches.

Growth and Learning Gaps in Math

The pandemic and online learning disrupted education in ways we are still discovering. We are very proud of how STrEaM navigated these challenges, yet we recognize learning deficits exist. Reading and math are the foundation of all learning; thus, we encourage parents to focus on these areas first.

Many students have developed some deficits, gaps or holes in their learning in math specifically. iReady is a great tool to address gaps in math and build a solid foundation. Students take the iReady diagnostic test, which identifies their learning strengths and gaps, then designs instruction at their level to meet their needs. We recommend students work on their individual myplan on iReady at home to continue building their foundation in math. Students in Algebra and Geometry can work on ALEKS.
