Rapids Report for 9-18-23

 The Rapids Report

September 18th, 2023

Dear STrEaM Families,

We’ve passed the midway point of quarter 1. It is getting colder, and we are excited to welcome the arrival of fall here at STrEaM. With the cooler weather, we want to ensure that our students are well-prepared to make the most of their outdoor experiences.

Please be sure your children are equipped with the proper outdoor gear. This includes:

  • Warm Clothing: As temperatures drop, please make sure your child has suitable layers to stay cozy during outdoor activities.

  • Rain Gear: A waterproof jacket can make all the difference on wet days.

  • Comfortable Footwear: Proper shoes or boots with good traction will keep feet dry and comfortable during walks and outdoor play.

By ensuring that your child is equipped with the right outdoor gear, you'll be supporting their safety, comfort, and enjoyment as we continue utilizing the great outdoors as a classroom.

Remember, rain, snow or shine, we go outside every day!

A Note from Friends of Stream

Stream Anchorage 501c3, dba Friends of Stream, is the non-profit fundraising arm for Anchorage STrEaM Academy. Each year we host two major fundraisers to help support long term and short term goals for the school. The Fall Fundraiser is the STREAM 100. Official kick-off for this fundraiser is Friday, October 6th. Watch for a postcard in your USPS mail box.

LUNCH DONATIONS

Our free lunch program is going well thanks to a lot of donations at the beginning of the year. This week we need two loaves of bread. We still have stock of Turkey and Peanut Butter and Jelly. Cheese sticks have been popular this year, too and we are low on cheese sticks. We also still have a good stock of yogurt. Protein donations are always welcome, especially self stable items.

After School Activities

X-C Running

Please note that this week’s meet is on Thursday in Girdwood at the Nordic Ski Trail. Athletes must be prepared for cold and wet conditions. Remember to wear your STrEaM jacket! Runners may stay after school in room 6. Bus leaves at 4:30!

Thank you for all of the snack donations. They have been graciously gobbled by our athletes.

Rapids Report for 9-11-23

 The Rapids Report

September 11th, 2023

Dear STrEaM Families,

We hope this message finds you well as we dive into the second week of September. Today marks the anniversary of the terrible terror attacks of September 11th, 2001. On this day, we remember the bravery and sacrifice of first responders, the resilience of survivors, and the strength of a nation united in grief. Let us never forget the lessons of that day: the importance of compassion, unity, and the enduring human spirit. In our own way, we try to carry forward the legacy of 9/11 by fostering a spirit of empathy, understanding, and community within our school and community.

It is getting colder, and as the days grow shorter and the leaves begin to change, we are excited to welcome the arrival of fall here at STrEaM. With the cooler, rainy weather, we want to ensure that our students are well-prepared to make the most of their outdoor experiences.

Please be sure your children are equipped with the proper outdoor gear. This includes:

Drop off and Pick up

Our drop-off and pick-up is a smooth operation, and we take great pride in that! Our goals are to keep everyone safe, and keep the line moving to expedite the process.

Please form two lanes: the inside lane for waiting, dropping off and picking up, and the outside lane for passing/leaving.

  • Please use caution and follow the directions of staff

  • Pull as far forward as possible before stopping. Please do not stop if there is space in front of you to pull forward. Pulling as far forward as possible reduces traffic back-up.

  • Maintain two lanes: inside lane for pick up/drop off, outside lane for passing and exiting.

  • It is unlawful to be on electronic devices while driving in a school zone.

  • Drive slowly in the neighborhood & watch for pedestrians & bicycles: many of our students walk to and from school.
