Rapids Report 1-24-22

 The Rapids Report

January 24th, 2022

Dear STrEaM Families,

This week we will have a modified schedule: “B” block day on Monday and “A” block day Friday. We won’t have the “full” schedule periods 1-7 on Monday and Friday. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday schedules remain the same. This is a proactive COVID mitigation strategy: fewer classes per day means less exposure, less intermingled groups, fewer passing times, less movement in the school. It also makes it easier to cover classes if we have multiple staff absences. Since this gives us two days of “specials,” Period 8 on Thursday will be Advisory-based Learning Labs, focused on math and academic work.

Regular “specials” Period 8 on Monday this week (Musicians, bring instruments Monday!)

PE will be skating at Scenic Park this week! Please have students bring skates if they have them!

This Week at STrEaM

Pick up & drop off

Drive safely and follow traffic laws in the neighborhood.

Pull forward as far possible into open space available, up to the end of the curb. This allows traffic to move  and more students to exit/enter vehicles.

Do NOT stop with open space in front of your vehicle.

Be patient with staff and other drivers, follow directions and traffic laws. Watch for students walking or on wheels, skis, etc.

Thank you all for your positivity and patience!

Lottery and 22-23 SY

The lottery opens for the 22-23 school year on February 1st. Returning students do NOT have to apply in the lottery. However, please let us know as soon as possible if your child will not be returning to STrEaM, as this affects enrollment and seats available.
Please help with recruiting for 22-23 by sharing and spreading the word about our school. Please share and pass on social media posts, and see Mrs. Biondich for flyers and posters if you have a place to distribute them.

Closing and Quyana

Thank you for your patience, grace and understanding as we continue navigating school in a pandemic, while providing the most positive learning environment possible. We truly believe this is the greatest school on earth, and strive every day to make it so!

 The Rapids Report

January 10th, 2022

Dear STrEaM Families,

We had a great return to school last week! Everyone was excited to be back and to jump right in to learning. While temperatures remain below zero, we have adjusted to allow students to be indoors before school and during lunch. We continue to go outside every day, so make sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather and write their names on gloves and coats

NO SCHOOL next Monday, January 17th to honor Martin Luthing King Jr. day.  Later in the calendar: we are NOT holding spring parent/teacher conferences in February, maximizing those valuable days for instruction and project-based learning. There is no school on Friday 2/18 and Monday 2/21.

Traffic

Last week we notified you about traffic concerns from our neighbors. If you are exiting school and driving through the neighborhood (Creekside, Robin, Dickson.) Please follow traffic laws, be safe and respectful when driving in the neighborhood. Full letter can be found at this LINK

Good Neighbors: traffic safety

January 5th, 2022

Good morning STrEaM Families,

We greatly appreciate how well our drop-off and pick-up goes, and your patience and understanding navigating this. We do our very best to keep everyone safe and keep things moving.

This morning we received another call from a concerned person in the neighborhood about the speed and safety of traffic leaving school after drop-off,  exiting onto 32nd Avenue then out through the side streets (Dickson, Robin and Creekside).

Please drive with caution and follow all traffic laws, especially when exiting through the neighborhood.  The speed limit on residential streets is 20 MPH. We will be passing this concern along to APD and asking for their support in monitoring traffic for safety as well.

STrEaM strives to be good neighbors, practice stewardship and maintain positive relationships with the community. Thank you for your understanding and attention to this matter. We appreciate all of you, and want to keep everyone safe.
