Dear STrEaM Families,

We hope you all enjoy the three day weekend, finding ways to relax, recharge and get outdoors. There is NO SCHOOL Monday, January 17th to honor Martin Luthing King Jr. day.  

Huge congratulations to Mrs. Sonday and our Robotics team! This weekend they took FIRST PLACE at the qualifier and are going to the STATE competition!! We are SO proud of this accomplishment and all the hard work they have put in to this achievement. Go Rapids!

Social Media Safety Video

The link below is to a video about social media safety for students. It was put together by Victims for Justice through a grant by Anchorage Health and Human Services.  It is a fantastic educational tool for teen parents, and we encourage you to watch with your child at home: https://vimeo.com/663019068

Pick up & drop off

Please pull as far forward as possible to take up open space available, up to the end of the curb. This allows traffic to move forward and more students to exit/enter vehicles at the same time. 

Please do NOT stop short at an entrance with open space in front of your vehicle. Stay patient with us and other drivers, and follow traffic directions and laws in the parking lot and neighborhood. Always watch for our students walking or on wheels, skis, etc. 

We love how smoothly pick up and drop off runs and STrEaM. Thank you all for your positivity and patience!

Ski season is off to a great start! Thanks to our nonprofit STrEaM Anchorage and a matching grant, we have $9000 in new ski equipment!

RAPIDS REPORT 1-10-22

January 10th, 2022

Dear STrEaM Families,

We had a great return to school last week! Everyone was excited to be back and to jump right in to learning. While temperatures remain below zero, we have adjusted to allow students to be indoors before school and during lunch. We continue to go outside every day, so make sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather and write their names on gloves and coats. 

NO SCHOOL next Monday, January 17th to honor Martin Luthing King Jr. day.  Later in the calendar: we are NOT holding spring parent/teacher conferences in February, maximizing those valuable days for instruction and project-based learning. There is no school on Friday 2/18 and Monday 2/21.

Traffic

Last week we notified you about traffic concerns from our neighbors. If you are exiting school and driving through the neighborhood (Creekside, Robin, Dickson.) Please follow traffic laws, be safe and respectful when driving in the neighborhood. Full letter can be found at this LINK.

Mask Requirements & COVID protocols

Isolation for COVID is now 5 days from start of symptoms or positive test. With the surge of the new strain of COVID, it is imperative that we maintain health and safety protocols. Masks are still required in ASD buildings at all times. Mask up, and keep students home if they display any symptoms.

Good Neighbors: traffic safety

January 5th, 2022 

Good morning STrEaM Families,

We greatly appreciate how well our drop-off and pick-up goes, and your patience and understanding navigating this. We do our very best to keep everyone safe and keep things moving. 

This morning we received another call from a concerned person in the neighborhood about the speed and safety of traffic leaving school after drop-off,  exiting onto 32nd Avenue then out through the side streets (Dickson, Robin and Creekside).

Please drive with caution and follow all traffic laws, especially when exiting through the neighborhood.  The speed limit on residential streets is 20 MPH. We will be passing this concern along to APD and asking for their support in monitoring traffic for safety as well.

STrEaM strives to be good neighbors, practice stewardship and maintain positive relationships with the community. Thank you for your understanding and attention to this matter. We appreciate all of you, and want to keep everyone safe.

RAPIDS REPORT 12-13-21

December 13th, 2021

Dear STrEaM Families,

We’ve reached the LAST week of the 2nd quarter! It has been a great first semester at STrEaM, filled with project-based learning, STEM activities, and outdoor experiences. Instead of just the traditional finals, this week our students were finishing towers, trebuchets, roller coasters, cardboard boats and other projects, working in teams and employing engineering, innovation, creativity, problem-solving, and ingenuity. Throughout the week they took breaks from their hard work to go outside sledding, climbing snow mountain, and playing in the park. Education CAN be engaging, hands-on and fun.

This week is Holiday Spirit Week! See the daily spirit themes below.  Please remind students to dress warm and be prepared!

Book Swap

The Student Leadership Book Swap & Bake Sale was a HUGE success! We raised over $200 and collected about 100 books for the school library. Many students participated and took home new books to read and/or delicious baked goods. Thank you families for sending in your books and supporting the bakers.

Just like that, we are on the final countdown for quarter 2 and the first semester! The last day teachers will give Mastery Assessments is this Friday. This just means there will not be Masteries next week, as teachers allow time to complete assignments, projects and assessments.

Book Swap

Student Leadership collected hundreds of books last week! The book swap is this Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 PM. Those who brought books are invited in first and will receive tickets at the door for books or bake sale goods.  Students who did not donate books may purchase tickets for $1 each. Remaining books, and profits made, go towards the STrEaM library.
