Dear STrEaM Families,

Today is the last day of July, and as we move into August, preparations for the start of school are ramping up. The second lottery ran and is closed, and all our seats are full. Year six is shaping up to be the best yet at STrEaM. 

Staff Updates 

Congratulations to Mrs. Sonday (formerly Ms. Draeger), our 6th grade Science and Robotics teacher. She was married last year and made her name change official for this year. Mrs. Sonday and her husband welcomed baby girl Eloise in August! Mrs. Sonday will be on leave for the first quarter, and her substitute teacher is Elroy Holsopple, father of our 7th grade Science teacher Zeb Holsopple! Senior Mr. Holsopple is a retired teacher and an outstanding substitute: we are lucky to have him. 

STrEaM welcomes two new staff members this year as well. Mr. Boone joins us as an Interventionist to support students and teachers, and Ms. Wendt was hired as a Special Education Teacher Assistant. These are great additions to our family, and we’re excited to have them on board. Additionally, our former Special Education assistant Emily Stephens and her husband ALSO welcome a new baby girl into the world, and Emily will re-join us part time to assist with Special Education support. 

Registration and enrollment

We have nearly 90% of our students registered!! Please complete online registration on Q Parent Connect ASAP! If you need your PIN (Parent Id Number), call Sylvia at 742-9000. Online registration is the annual renewal required by ASD.  All of our Permission Forms are online, on our website: STrEaM>Families>Main Page>Forms. 

The lottery is closed, and notifications have been sent. Please contact us with questions regarding seats and the lottery. 

If your child will not be returning to/attending STrEaM in the fall, PLEASE notify us for planning purposes! Every seat counts! 

21-22 School Year Planning

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 17th. August 17-20th is “Welcome Week,” filled with fun and engaging return to school orientation & activities.

School Supplies

STrEaM strives to require MINIMAL school supplies for students. 

• One (1) 1.5" Three-ring binder
• One (1) set of 5 dividers
• One (1) plain two pocket folder (any color)
• A few blue or black pens
• A few sharpened #2 pencils
• A reusable BPA-free water bottle (label with name)
• Outdoor gear (WRITE NAME INSIDE)
• jacket (Coat in winter)
• sneakers and boots for walking outside
• A backpack, (write student name inside)

COVID-19/Vaccination update

ASD is now requiring masks for all persons in school buildings. Wayland Baptist University also has a mask requirement in place. Please mask up when you come to STrEaM!

X-C Running

Coaches Mozen and Perkins are very excited to start another season of Cross Country Running at STrEaM! Practice will begin the first week of school. Watch for a Google Survey to sign up for running, and make sure to complete physicals and all forms. Runners should begin preparing for the season by running at least a mile a day. Rapids Report July 21, 2021

 This Week at STrEaM Academy

Dear STrEaM Families,

Although it is July and still summer vacation, we are working to keep families informed for the upcoming school year. Feel free to email, call or schedule a time to come by school if you need more information or support!

We hope you are going outside every day. Send us pictures of outdoor adventures and we will share on our social media. Remember students have access to ALEKS and iReady throughout the summer!

COVID-19/Vaccination update

As the start of school approaches and COVID cases are spiking, there are a lot of questions. We will keep you informed as the district makes decisions. The best path to a normal start to the school year is for as many people as possible to get the COVID vaccine. 

Current ASD policies on COVID: https://www.asdk12.org/COVID-19 

• Mask wearing for all students is optional (informed by parental preference). 
• Mask wearing for staff is optional; the District strongly advises non-vaccinated staff to wear masks (self-determined).
• Mask wearing for vaccinated parents, volunteers, and visitors is optional; non-vaccinated individuals are strongly advised to wear masks.
• Up to 3’ distancing will be encouraged while inside school buildings.

Dear STrEaM Families,

We hope you are enjoying your summer, and getting outdoors every day! We (Mrs. Biondich, Admin Assistant and Principal Mokelke) are back in the office, officially starting 21-22 school year planning and preparation. Parents can email, call or come by between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM. 

Registration:

Please complete online registration through Q Parent Connect as soon as possible. If you need your PIN (Parent Id Number), call Sylvia at 742-9000. Online registration is the annual renewal of yearly documents required by ASD.  All of our Permission Forms are online and digital! Annual forms will come out from us later this month. 

Parents of returning students: if your child will not be returning to STrEaM in the fall, PLEASE notify us for planning purposes! We have a waiting list already, and the second lottery is still open. Every seat counts! 

21-22 School Year Planning:

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 17th. Our plan now is to return to our full, regular school schedule: 8 AM to 3 PM except for early release Wednesdays, which are 8 AM to 12 PM. 

Mondays and Fridays are “full schedule” days: students attend periods 1 through 7. Tuesdays and Thursdays are “block” days: Tuesday students attend periods 1-4, Thursdays they attend periods 5-8. Period 8 classes are elective-style “specials” which students will choose each quarter.  On Wednesdays students begin the day in Advisory, then attend their projects block. 

The first week of school is Induction Week, filled with activities to orient students and prepare for the school year. Mr. Holsopple and Ms. Kotelman plan our induction week, and information on this will be forthcoming in future updates. Needless to say, it will be an awesome start to the year!

Cross Country Running will begin right away when school starts. Watch for the sign-up information in future updates.

Rapids Report 5-17-21

This week at STrEaM Academy

May 17th, 2021

Dear STrEaM Families,

We are finally here, the LAST week of school for the 20-21 school year! WOW, what a journey it has been. I want to thank each of you for your patience, perseverance, flexibility and engagement as we navigated the most difficult and challenging school year any of us have ever experienced. In the end, I don’t believe in the term “learning loss,” and I do believe thanks to our amazing teachers, parents, staff, students and supporters, this year was a success. 

Health and Safety:

With only 4 days left for students, we are maintaining our health and safety measures and continuing mask wearing at all times, including in classes and on outdoor breaks. 

Working Wednesday this week:

This is the last virtual working Wednesday of the year. Teachers will hold class on Zoom. 

Chromebook Return:

All STrEaM Chromebooks must be returned Thursday morning. There will be return stations in the front lobby. 

FIELD DAY Thursday 5/20:

This year we will have grade-level Field Day events on the last day of school

• Eighth graders will begin with a Moving-On Ceremony on campus, followed by a hike to Cheney Lake for a treasure hunt and ice cream sandwiches
• 7th graders will walk to Chugach Foothills Park for a day of activity stations including: yard games, ultimate frisbee, board games, & free play
• 6th graders will stay on campus and rotate through stations designed for fun and camaraderie: yard games, basketball, crafts, and a design challenge

Summer Learning:

Parents, your children have access to iReady and ALEKS over the summer if you wish to extend and continue summer reading and math. We also encourage 20 minutes of reading a day, and a lot of outdoor activities and adventures!

21-22 SY Planning:

Parents of current 6th and 7th grade students: if your child will not be returning to STrEaM in the fall, PLEASE notify us for planning purposes! We have a waiting list already, and the second lottery is open. 

If you have any questions or need assistance after this week, Mr. Mokelke and Mrs. Biondich are available and working until June 4th, and return on July 13th.

Rapids Report May 10th, 21

Dear STrEaM Families,

This is the LAST full week of school!  Let’s FINISH STRONG, STrEaM Academy!

Thank you parents!! 

THANK YOU from our entire staff for all the love, support, food and coffee for Teacher Appreciation Week! We felt the love all week, and have such tremendous appreciation for our supportive parents and school community!

Working Wednesdays:

Just TWO Wednesdays remaining! This Wednesday, 5/12, please make sure your child completes the iReady Diagnostic in Reading and Math. It is important that we get this final (3rd) data point for this school year. 

Next Wednesday, 5/19 is our final virtual working day of the year. 

Join our APC for the final meeting of the year, 5:30 PM on Youtube!

Planet Ride Saturday 5/15:

Join us to bike the "Planet Ride!"  Meet at 5th and G, next to the giant sun at 9:45 am.  See full details on the permission form, due by Thursday May 13th.  Permission Form link  

Students MUST have a helmet, bike in good repair, a lunch/snack, water, sun glasses & sunscreen, a mask, and a ride home.

The online auction CLOSES FRIDAY AT 3 PM! Bid on auction baskets here: Anchorage Stream Academy Spring 2021 Auction by Stream Anchorage 501(c)(3) or scan the QR CODE with your phone camera.

The “Engaged Citizen” fundraiser is still open for donations. For every four items a student adds to the Pantry Pack, they receive a drawing ticket for THE HIKING BASKET! So keep those food donations coming in until May 14th.

• Please drive slow and safely on campus and in the neighborhood
• Keep 2 lanes: drop off on the inside/curb, passing lane on the outside
• Students walking home must leave campus when dismissed and may not return to campus

This week at STrEaM Academy

April 26th, 2021

Dear STrEaM Families,

It is already the last week of April! The sun is shining and we are going outdoors every day at STrEaM. Next week we will already be into May, with Field Day and the end of the school year right around the corner. Let’s FINISH STRONG, STrEaM Academy!

This week we will have our LAST Morning Coffee for the year, Wednesday at 8 AM on Zoom and Youtube. We will have a STrEaM-themed Kahoot and prizes for winners! 

Upcoming Dates of Note: 

The first week of May is Teacher appreciation week. The final deadline for Mastery Assessments is Friday, May 14th. Last day of school and Field Day 5/20.

Rapids Report 4-5-21

This week at STrEaM Academy

April 5th, 2021

Dear STrEaM Families,

Our return to in-person learning has been outstanding! Thank you to parents, students and our staff for your hard work, cooperation, patience and positivity. 

We continue with PEAKS testing this week: 8th grade on Monday, 7th grade on Tuesday, 6th grade on Thursday. Thank you to our staff and students for putting their best into these necessary assessments. 

The lottery has closed and our 21-22 enrollment is strong. WELCOME new STrEaM students and families!! 

Remember to join us for Morning Coffee every Wednesday at 8 AM on Zoom and Youtube! 

NEXT week, on Friday 4/16 there is NO SCHOOL for STrEaM only. This is a predetermined day in our calendar based on our lease agreement with Wayland Baptist to not have school on their fall and spring graduation dates.

Wednesday, April 7th at 5:30pm - call the school for the link, if you are interested in attending!

Morning Drop Off:

• Please pull forward as far as possible before stopping and dropping students
• Keep 2 lanes: drop off on the inside/curb, passing lane on the outside
• Please drop off no earlier than 7:45 AM. Doors will open at 7:55 AM. School begins at 8:00 AM
• Please follow speed limits, drive safely and keep mobile devices off and away (Anchorage Law)

Afternoon Pick Up:

• Staggered dismissal begins at 12:45. If you want students earlier, call Mrs. Biondich. Students are dismissed for pick up at 1:00 PM
• Students walking home must leave campus at dismissal and may not return to campus
• Parents may park if waiting is an option
• Please follow the cones and traffic pattern for pick up and drop off

Reminders for in-person learning: 

• Come prepared to go outside every day! 
• Bring cold or prepackaged snacks only. Snack during outdoor breaks each period
• No items can be left in the building due to cleaning protocols
• Bring chromebooks and chargers each day
• Approved masks are to be worn properly at all times (no buffs, vented masks)
• ASD is SYMPTOM FREE. Students exhibiting symptoms may not attend
• Students sent home with symptoms must have a negative test to return
